Michael Flecky

Michael Flecky SJ is a Jesuit priest and Professor in the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Creighton University in Omaha NE where he has taught photography for 42 years. He holds an MFA degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and BA and MA degrees from St. Louis University.  

 

His photographs have appeared in over 30 one-person exhibitions and more than 50 group shows throughout the US. He has received grants and residencies from public and private arts foundations including the Ucross Foundation; the Dorland Mountain Arts Colony; the Hambidge Center; the New York, North Carolina and Nebraska Arts Councils, and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.  

 

While teaching at Creighton, his photography has taken him to the UK and Ireland, Scandinavia, Italy, the Dominican Republic, and North Africa. His feature illustrations and articles on photography have appeared in numerous national publications. His book Hopkins in Ireland: Pictures and Words, was published by the Creighton University Press in 2008.

He has produced original photographs in a variety of print formats including silver gelatin black and white, color, platinum, palladium, cyanotype, and pigment inkjet. He has also recently self-published photographic books representing collections of past photographic work, including those represented in the portfolios of this website.
